F\u00fcr einmal gibt es chinesisches Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck, f\u00fcr Langnasen doch eher gew\u00f6hnungsbed\u00fcrftig. Lauwarmer Saft der etwas nach Orange schmeckt, Teigtaschen, Nudelsuppe (f\u00fcr jene, die das schon vertragen), Trockenreis mit Gem\u00fcsestreifen, trockene Br\u00f6tchen, Melonen und Tee oder warme Milch. Die heutige Strecke, 32km bergig, f\u00fchrt uns wiederum vorbei am Alltagsverkehr aus der Stadt. Dazu kommt auch die ‚Duftnote‘ einer Ziegelbrennerei gleich neben der Strasse.<\/p>\n

Schon bald folgt der Anstieg, wobei Martin kurz davor auf einem Kiesbett wegrutscht und leider auch sein Knie etwas n\u00e4here Bekanntschaft mit dem Asphalt macht. Auch das kennt ihr ja schon, desinfiszieren, Wunde reinigen, Verband drum – fertig. Da Katharina etwas ‚unp\u00e4sslich‘ im Begleitfahrzeug verschwindet, bleib ich vorerst an Martins Seite als Begleiter.<\/p>\n

Gekonnt fahren wir den Berg in einem St\u00fcck hoch, um am Gipfel sogleich noch das obligate Gruppenphoto zu schiessen. Unser Fahrer musste gleich mehrere Kameras zur Hand nehmen, damit alle Photow\u00fcnsche erf\u00fcllt wurden. Die Abfahrt f\u00fchrt durch enge Serpentinen hinunter ins Tal nach Shaxi. Einmal mehr faszinierend, wie sich die Landschaft innerhalb weniger Kilometer wandelt.<\/p>\n

Sch\u00f6n angelegte Alleen s\u00e4umen die Strasse durch kleine D\u00f6rfer, wo sich mehrere Kinder bei einem Bad im Teich vergn\u00fcgen. Entlang der Strasse nach Shaxi sind dutzende Leute mit ihren Weidek\u00f6rben unterwegs, um auf dem Wochenmarkt, der hier jeden Freitag stattfindet, alles Notwendige f\u00fcr den kargen Lebensbedarf zu erwerben (wir befinden uns hier in einer der \u00e4rmsten Gegenden Chinas, wo das pro Kopf Einkommen gerade mal 120 US$ pro Jahr betr\u00e4gt).<\/p>\n

Umso mehr erstaunt es, welchen zufriedenen Eindruck die Leute hinterlassen. Das bunte Treiben auf dem Markt erweckt den Eindruck, dass hier alles noch ein wenig gem\u00fctlicher vor sich geht und gen\u00fcgend Zeit bleibt, um hie und da einen Schwatz zu halten oder ein bischen um den Preis zu feilschen. So schlendern wir durch den Markt und saugen die vielen Eindr\u00fccke dieser uns so fremden Kultur fasziniert in uns auf.<\/p>\n

Today we had breakfast ‚Oriental style‘, noodle soup or rice with fried cabbage, for those who could face it! We had a portion of instant coffee left from Lijiang, as well as an orange juice bought the evening before, which along with a muesli bar and a few Basler leckerli gave us enough energy for the 32km route today. Just out of town Martin braked a bit too abruptly, meaning we had a short break while his grazed knee was cleaned and bandaged. From then on it was a gentle uphill route, passed pine forests, where locals were felling a tree for firewood, or a farmer herded his cattle and goats. We heard birds singing and just enjoyed the fresh air and scenery.<\/p>\n

After a stop for a group photo, where our driver took pictures with most cameras, we had an ascent towards Shaxi, passing locals all heading for market. A group of boys swimming in a reasonably clean looking pond all waved and shouted the usual hallo and we were, as always, greeted with smiles and friendly faces. Soon we arrived in the village, dismounting to pass the hundreds of people in the bustling market. We found our lodging, rooms in an inn, rustic-luxurious, being the only way I can describe it. Then it was back out to wander around the market, with all the women in their local costumes doing the ‚weekly shop‘, probably wondering why we were taking photos of them. Thinking about it, what would you say if you came out of Sainsburys loaded with bags and a Chinese started taking photos of you? There was the meat market, tools, cement, fruit & veg, bakery, clothes, you name it and it was probably there…..<\/p>\n

After that we still had plenty of time to sit in the courtyard and enjoy the peace and quiet before eating a meal of local dishes here at the inn. Of course once again the evening was rounded off with a beer or two….
